  • Born out of an experimentation, this home in Alwar revives the lost craft of natural homes built using old construction techniques indigenous to the local context. Mud takes center stage for the architect, who designs this home for her mother-in-law practicing organic farming.
    #MyGreatFacade is a series presented by Fenesta Windows in association with #buildofy
    A compact home with minimal functions, the challenge was to blend the inside and the outside in a well-ventilated built form naturally lit from all sides. A sloping roof sandwiched between two open terraces adds drama to the volumes. Natural materials are utilized to their fullest potential, adding strength, insulation, and aesthetics to the overall structure.
    To download the full PDF eBook of Mud House in Alwar with floor plans, materials used, construction techniques and so much more, please visit: www.buildofy.c...
    The rammed earth walls, central living room, and materiality of the two distinct bedrooms are some key highlights of the project. The principal architect walks us through the home, insightfully breaking down the material palette as well as the traditional construction techniques that add charm to this sustainable home.

    It is exciting to see traditional building methods get a modern implementation. The house is beautiful, sustainable, and well crafted.

    Lovely. I am from the Caribbean where there is a relatively large East Indian presence due to indentureship period. I grew up in my grandmother's house...what we call a traditional "Tapia" /mud house. Two levels, very beautiful....you would not have thought it was a mud. The one thing i remember was when we were demolishing it to construct a bigger more modern home. The work men began demolition and were relentlessly hitting the walls but it just would not fall. An older person told them "let the crane tear it down, you're wasting your time. Concrete would fall easily, but not mud house". I was 8 years old. When the crane began to tear it down i saw why....the mud, the cow dung & the grass kept those walls so tightly binded. Seeing this video brings a smile to my face. Well done lady. You could see how pleased mother in law is❤

    Can’t believe this house has a material palette so similar to my idea of a sustainable, yet elegant mud house! A lot of mud houses I have come across lack any use of limestone finishes for waterproofing, wall paints, etc.
    So glad to have found this video.

    • @beejonsahu9922
      @beejonsahu9922 Год назад

      Hi, yes Rammed earth house are quite resilient against any natural calamities like, earthquake, fire and rain. Need to stabilize the earth using just 5-7 % lime or cement. I will prefer cement as it's sustainable material. I will personally suggest to see videos of Rammed earth wall/house. In south India already there are lot of such house projects in place. Thank you that you are concerned about Earth 🌎 and sustainable living 😊
